Anxiety and Why to See Help

This Article is a short description of several anxiety related disorders, symptoms and why to seek help.

Anxiety disorders are very prevalent in the fast paced western culture of North America and Western Europe, where our community based ties and other types of support are not as strong as in Asian countries and smaller communities.

The fact that Generalized anxiety disorder is one of the most common problems plaguing Americans, does not mean that many will seek treatment, many folks with this or other anxiety problems ongoing will not seek help. Instead, they will abuse alcohol, drugs or other mind numbing agents to deter the stress overload felt.

This is why I feel that a person dealing with even a few of the symptoms should be evaluated with great care by a trained mental health worker.

Some of the worst problems with anxiety is it effects daily activities of living such as family, work, responsibilities undertaken while less stressed, then can not be met when panic attacks occur at a worst case scenario.

Panic attacks are an extremely chaotic and scary experience, where I have also experienced this horrific thing, which paralyzes it’s victims and makes them unable to even move. I once had a horrific panic attack while driving, it’s cause unknown, but effected me so greatly I had to pull off to the side of the road and wait 20 minutes until the feeling of helplessness passed I have only had this feeling about three times in my life, and wish to never experience it again. I have medication to take, but only do so in an emergency as the one example above most certainly was.

Some people have panic disorder where this kind of attack happens 4-5 times a week and can not function when this occurs. This is a serious warning to get help, and should not be taken lightly.
